The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has embarked on a significant project to construct state-of-the-art runways at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi. Both runways, namely 25R/07L and 25L/07R, are slated for construction, aligning with international standards.
In a recent announcement, the CAA has called for eligible companies, both domestic and foreign, to participate in the bidding process for the construction of these primary and secondary runways at Karachi Airport. The criteria for participation include relevant experience, skills, and financial capacity, with an additional requirement for Pakistani companies to be registered with the Pakistan Engineering Council.
The pre-bid ceremony is scheduled for October 17, 2023, at Terminal One. The decision to revamp the runways is part of ongoing efforts to modernize airport infrastructure and enhance operational capabilities.
This move follows a prior decision by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) to construct a new air traffic control (ATC) tower at Jinnah International Airport. The existing ATC tower, with a remarkable 91-year history, faces height limitations and is deemed inadequate for contemporary aviation needs. The new ATC tower is anticipated to address these limitations, improve visibility, and enhance overall flight safety. Simultaneously, a Rescue Fire Fighting (RFF) complex is set to be established to bolster fire safety measures at Karachi Airport. The construction of these critical facilities aligns with the broader goal of ensuring the safety, efficiency, and modernization of airport operations.
