The Health Department of Sindh released its annual comparison report, showcasing significant progress in the battle against various diseases in the region.
According to the report, in 2022, a total of 417,213 cases of Malaria were reported. Unfortunately, 24 fatalities were recorded due to the disease during the same period. Dengue posed a substantial threat, with 23,274 cases and 64 deaths in the year 2022.
However, the year 2023 brought about a positive turn of events, as a result of timely and effective measures implemented by the Health Department. Out of a staggering 559,515 reported cases of Malaria, only 2 deaths were recorded, marking a substantial decline in mortality rates.
The outlook for Dengue in 2023 is particularly promising, with 2,852 reported cases and zero fatalities. This represents a commendable achievement in the ongoing efforts to control and prevent the spread of the disease.
Additionally, the report highlighted the successful containment of health threats originating from Nigeria. In 2022, 7 deaths were recorded, but in 2023, the number of cases reported throughout Sindh from Nigeria was 12. While one person managed to recover, unfortunately, 11 deaths were recorded.
The CCIF Congo Virus, which posed a significant challenge in 2022 with 8 recorded fatalities out of 8 cases, continued to be monitored closely. In 2023, among 5 patients diagnosed with the Congo Virus, 2 deaths were reported.
The overall trend presented in the annual report suggests that the Health Department’s proactive approach and strategic interventions have led to a notable improvement in the health landscape of Sindh, offering hope for a healthier future.
