Karachi has seen an alarming rise in traffic accidents, with 116 fatalities reported in the first 48 days of 2025, among these, 57 individuals were struck by heavy vehicles.
According to the data released by Chhipa, the victims included 83 men, 16 women, 12 children, and 5 girls.
A total of 16 people died in dumper accidents, 15 in trawler collisions, 11 in water tanker accidents, 6 in Mazda crashes, and 9 died in bus-related incidents.
Additionally, 1,570 people were injured in traffic accidents, while motorcyclists were the most affected, as they made up a significant portion of the casualties.
Traffic police officials cite heavy traffic as a key cause of accidents, particularly the exemption given to large vehicles like dumpers and tankers.
Karachi, with 7 million vehicles and only 5,000 traffic police officers, struggles to manage the flow.
In response, the Sindh government has implemented a new regulation limiting large vehicles to roads only between 10 pm and 6 am, with exceptions for essential service vehicles.
However, this measure has not significantly reduced accidents.
Last night, another man lost his life after colliding with a dumper, leading to public outrage and the burning of five water tankers.
