The Spanish government announced that it will officially end the Spain Golden Visa program in 2025, however, for those interested can still have a chance to obtain the golden visa.
This change will take effect three months after its publication in the Official Gazette of Spain, meanwhile the decision was made public in the Official State Gazette (BOE) on January 3, 2025.
Under the current regulations, non-EU investors can still apply for a Spain Golden Visa by purchasing property worth 500,000 euros or more before April 3, 2025, or by choosing from other available options within the program.
This decision follows a plan announced in April 2024 by Spanish authorities to end the Golden Visa program.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring housing remains a right, not just an investment vehicle.
The Golden Visa program, which began in 2013, has played a significant role in Spain’s economy.
In the first ten months of 2024 alone, Spain issued 780 Golden Visas, with an average investment per applicant of 657,204 euros.
The government’s move to end the program comes amid concerns over the ongoing housing crisis in the country.
