Govt accepts demands of Ittehad-e-Tanazem madrasas

A significant breakthrough has been made on the issue of madrasa registration, as the government has agreed to all the demands made by Ittehad-e-Tanazem Madrasas.

This development came after a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

As per media reports, the government has promised to register madrasas under the Societies Registration Act of 1860.

Meanwhile, a notification regarding the draft of this agreement, in line with the 26th Constitutional Amendment, is expected to be issued in the coming days.

It is pertinent to mention here that after the meeting with PM Shehbaz Sharif, Maulana Fazlur Rehman told the media that the PM had responded positively to their concerns.

He stated that the PM had instructed the Ministry of Law to take necessary steps in accordance with the law and the constitution.

Rehman expressed hope that the matter would soon be resolved and that there would be no need for a joint session of Parliament to discuss the issue further.

The madrasa registration issue had earlier faced objections from President Arif Alvi, who raised concerns that registering madrasas under the Societies Act could lead to restrictions from international bodies like FATF and the European Union.
