Karachi police on Monday arrested more than 12 members of Muttahida Qaumi Movement – London (MQM-L) from the Mukka Chowk area.
Following MQM – London calls to observe Martyrs’ Day on December 9, several party workers were gathered near Mukka Chowk.
Police baton charged the gathered workers to disperse them, while a heavy contingent of Rangers and police was deployed in the area.
The police officials in a statement claimed that the MQM London activists are currently present in different streets of Azizabad, adding that the MQM London leaders, including Nisar Panhoor, Aftab Baqai, and Altaf Mengal, were arrested.

It is worth mentioning here that the MQM – London had planned to pay respects at the Martyrs’ Memorial in Jinnah Ground and recite Fateha at the graves of movement martyrs in Yasinabad Cemetery.
MQM London has also announced similar commemorations in various cities across Pakistan and worldwide.
It is pertinent to mention here that MQM – London observed the Martyrs’ Day annually on December 9 to honor Nasir Hussain and Arif Hussain, brother and nephew of party founder Altaf Hussain, respectively, who were killed on this day in 1995.
