Traders stage protest against K-Electric in Karachi’s cooperative market, traffic disrupted

A protest organized by traders against K-Electric caused disruptions in the Cooperative Market of Sadar area in Karachi, leading to traffic congestion within the market and its vicinity.

Traffic en route to the Co-operative Market had to be diverted as a result of the demonstration. Numerous market associations from across the city participated in the protest, joined by Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi.

During the protest, traders vehemently voiced their grievances against both the government and K-Electric, the city’s power supply company.

Addressing the gathered protestors, Atiq Mir, a prominent leader among the business community, declared their refusal to pay off the International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan for the rulers’ luxuries. He further affirmed their full support for the scheduled September strike.

Mir emphasized that their awakening is a critical juncture, one that requires careful consideration and strategic planning. He encouraged fellow traders not to bow before oppressors and to stand up for the future of their children and the well-being of the country.

Drawing attention to the issue of inequitable resource distribution, Mir highlighted the unjust utilization of taxpayer funds. He criticized the ruling elite for viewing the people as lifeless entities and urged them to curtail their extravagant lifestyles.

The protest underscored the frustration of traders against the perceived injustices in the system, particularly those involving K-Electric, and called for greater fairness and accountability in the distribution of resources and governance practices.
