TB cases hit record high in Pakistan: WHO

Pakistan is among the countries that reported the most number of tuberculosis (TB) cases in 2024.

In its report on tuberculosis (TB), the World Health Organization (WHO) revealed that approximately 8.2 million people worldwide will be diagnosed with TB in 2023, which is the highest number recorded since 1995.

According to the published report, the disease disproportionately affected people in 30 countries, with the highest number of TB cases reported from India, Indonesia, China, Philippines, and Pakistan.

The WHO stated that more than a quarter of the 8.2 million TB cases were found in India, while in 2023, 55 percent of people affected by TB are men and 33 percent are women.

A total of 12 percent of children and young people will be affected by tuberculosis, still TB is causing more deaths and illness.

Tuberculosis (TB) continues to be a significant health concern, affecting approximately 12 percent of children and young people globally.

Despite advancements in medical treatment, TB remains a leading cause of death and illness globally.
