Sindh Minister for Minorities Affairs, Iyanchand Essrani, has appealed to dacoits operating in the riverine belt of the province to refrain from harming the Hindu community, which has peacefully resided in the region for centuries.
The minister’s plea came after concerns were raised in the provincial assembly regarding recent attacks on temples. Mangla Sharma, a lawmaker from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), highlighted a disturbing incident where heavily armed bandits used rocket launchers to target a temple in Sindh, causing fear and anxiety among the community. Minister Essrani confirmed that the dacoits had also announced their intention to target other temples belonging to the Hindu community in the province. He urged the bandits to consider the reputation of Pakistan and emphasized the longstanding peaceful coexistence of religious communities in the country. Meanwhile, Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi
Memon has ordered a high alert and increased security measures at temples across the province, deploying 400 police officers to ensure the safety of these places of worship. The police are working diligently to investigate the attacks and bring the culprits to justice. The authorities have registered a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act in response to the attack on a temple in Ghouspur, and efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators. It is important to maintain communal harmony and protect the rights and security of all religious communities in Sindh.
