Sindh may waive off electric vehicle registration charges

In a move to encourage citizens to buy electric vehicles in the province, the Sindh government has waived off their registration fees.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the subcommittee of the Sindh cabinet, chaired by Provincial Minister for Mines and Mineral Development Mir Shabbir Bajrani.

Quoting sources, ARY News reported that the department has decided to follow in Islamabad’s footsteps and charge no fee for the registration of electric vehicles. The proposal will be presented before the next cabinet meeting for approval.

Sindh is presently charging Rs800,000 registration fee for electric vehicles. In case the Cabinet does not approve the subcommittee’s recommendation, it has also been suggested that the registration fee then be reduced to Rs100,000.

The final decision will be taken by the Cabinet in the next meeting.
