In response to the tragic fire incident at RJ Shopping Mall on Rashid Minhas Road in Karachi, the Sindh High Court has taken decisive action, ordering an inspection of all shopping malls in the city. The court’s written order highlighted concerns about the handling of the case, expressing apprehension that the arrested individuals may be scapegoated while the real culprits evade justice.
During the court proceedings regarding the RJ Shopping Mall fire case, the judiciary underscored suspicions of foul play, noting efforts to shield the true perpetrators of the incident. As a result, the court directed the investigation officer, Sharif Mayo, to step down from the case, recommending that the investigation be transferred to a senior officer of the SSP rank.
Furthermore, the Sindh High Court emphasized the need for enhanced safety measures in commercial buildings, citing previous fire incidents in Karachi’s shopping malls due to inadequate safety protocols. The court’s order mandated a thorough inspection of all shopping malls, with a requirement for the issuance of safety certificates to ensure compliance with safety standards.
Reflecting on the severity of the RJ Mall fire, the court highlighted the potential for greater devastation had the incident occurred during peak hours. As part of its efforts to uphold justice, the court granted bail to seven accused individuals, with a stipulation for a one lakh rupee deposit.
The tragic incident at RJ Shopping Mall claimed the lives of 11 individuals, prompting calls for accountability and prosecution against those responsible. As investigations continue and revelations emerge, the judiciary remains committed to ensuring a fair and transparent legal process to address the aftermath of the devastating fire incident.
