Sindh Halth Department halts funding to private institutions pending audit

The Sindh Health Department has taken the initiative to suspend funding to private institutions until audit reports are submitted. The department has imposed stringent conditions, stating that private institutions, including SIUT and Indus Hospital, must present their audit reports to be eligible for further grants.

The Caretaker Health Minister of Sindh emphasized the necessity for financial transparency and accountability. He mentioned that a substantial grant of 87 billion was allocated to private institutions in 2022 by the Sindh Health Department. However, concerns have been raised due to the lack of records detailing the expenditure of the funds disbursed to these institutions.

The Caretaker Health Minister, upon assuming office, promptly requested the audit reports from private institutions. While these institutions requested additional time, the minister has now declared a suspension of further grants until the audit reports are furnished. This move is aimed at ensuring financial accountability and transparency in the utilization of public funds allocated to private healthcare entities.
