Sindh govt to shut 4,901 ghost schools

The Sindh Education Department has decided to close 4,901 ghost schools across the province and take action against teachers registered at non-functional schools and receiving their salaries at home.

According to a notification, the Education Department also released a list of inactive schools in Sindh.

Action will also be taken against teachers who have been receiving salaries at home for years.

Ghost schools are present in Karachi, Badin, Dadu, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Qambar, Mirpurkhas, Jamshoro and Sanghar.

The files are complete, paper work shows that students are enrolled, teachers are taking classes, and staff members are performing their duties, but in fact, these schools do not exist on the ground and the government funds and aid from donors are being embezzled.
