Following the success of the Pink Bus Service, the Sindh government has announced the upcoming launch of a “Pink Taxi Service” that will feature electric cars to cater to the needs of female citizens in the province. Minister for Information, Sharjeel Inam Memon, made the announcement during a meeting in Karachi, which was attended by Sindh Transport Secretary Salim Rajput and other officials.
Memon revealed that the service will initially introduce 200 electricity-powered taxis in Karachi, out of which fifty will be exclusive women-only taxis driven by female drivers. He mentioned that the recruitment of female drivers and the establishment of charging and parking facilities are yet to be finalized.
According to the minister, the electric taxi service aims to provide affordable travel options for the public. Additionally, the project will create job opportunities for unemployed youth, while the eco-friendly taxis will contribute to significant savings in oil expenses.
In another development, the Sindh government has decided to purchase 500 new electric buses in the upcoming fiscal year. These buses will operate under the People’s Bus Service, aiming to enhance convenience for the public. Minister Memon directed the relevant authorities to initiate a new bus route from Hattri to Khesana Mori in Hyderabad, with trial runs scheduled to begin within the next three days.
Memon emphasized that the launch of the new route will provide affordable travel facilities for residents in rural areas. He also instructed the authorities to deploy all backup buses on the roads of Karachi to enhance the convenience of citizens. The government is set to receive 20 new buses by June 15.
