Sindh CM directs resolution of land issues for Karachi Circular Railway

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has instructed the authorities concerned to resolve the land issues surrounding the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project, according to ARY News. The chief minister issued these directives while chairing a meeting related to the KCR.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Shah emphasized the significance of the KCR project in addressing the traffic issues of Karachi. He expressed the Sindh government’s commitment to initiating the project promptly and instructed the officials to expedite the documentation process.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Shah directed the officials to address the land issue for the project. He expressed hope that work on the KCR project would commence soon after obtaining approval from the China-Pakistan joint working group.

In April, it was reported that Pakistan had urged China to accelerate work on the $2 billion Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) and the $10 billion Mainline-1 (ML-1) railway track, as agreed upon by the leadership of both countries in November. Pakistan requested strong support from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and other relevant Chinese government institutions to advance the implementation of these critical projects.

The KCR project, approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in November, involves the construction of a dedicated 44-kilometer-long urban railway track in Karachi. The track will pass through various areas of the city, including Drigh Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Federal B Area, Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, SITE, and Lyari.

The resolution of land issues is a crucial step toward realizing the KCR project, which is expected to greatly improve the transportation infrastructure of Karachi and ease traffic congestion in the city. The Sindh government’s determination to address these challenges and seek necessary approvals demonstrates their commitment to the development and progress of the region.
