Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has asserted that the rate of street crime in Karachi has decreased, while incidents of kidnappings have also seen a significant decline across the province. Speaking to the media during the Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, the Chief Minister highlighted the efforts made by provincial law enforcement in curbing criminal activities and addressed ongoing infrastructure challenges.
CM Murad Ali Shah stated that the provincial government’s rigorous actions against criminal elements have led to a noticeable reduction in street crime in Karachi. “The dacoits are being controlled, and many have either been killed or captured,” he remarked, emphasizing the successes in law enforcement’s efforts to bring notorious criminals to justice.
He further pointed out that kidnapping cases, which had been a significant concern in certain areas of Sindh, have also decreased. The Chief Minister credited the effective policing and targeted operations for this positive shift, noting that these efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure the safety and security of the citizens of Sindh.
While discussing the development and infrastructure needs of the province, CM Murad Ali Shah criticized the federal government for its lack of investment in key projects in Sindh. He pointed out that the federal government has not yet initiated the construction of a motorway in the province, which has long been a demand of the people of Sindh.
Additionally, the Chief Minister highlighted the condition of dams in the region, stating that while most dams in Sindh are robust and well-maintained, the Right Bank Outfall Drain (RBOD) requires urgent attention. The RBOD, which falls under federal jurisdiction, has been neglected, leading to potential risks. CM Shah urged the federal government to commence the repair work on the RBOD promptly to avoid any future complications.
Addressing the ongoing political discourse, CM Murad Ali Shah spoke about Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s recent engagements. He clarified that Bilawal’s meetings with the Prime Minister were conducted in his capacity as the head of the PPP and were focused on national issues rather than just provincial matters.
“Chairman Bilawal Bhutto is meeting the Prime Minister as the head of the party, and he will speak for the people of Pakistan, not just for Sindh,” the Chief Minister emphasized. This statement underscores the PPP’s broader political strategy, aiming to address concerns that affect the entire nation while also advocating for the rights and needs of Sindh.
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah’s statements reflect a mixed narrative of progress and ongoing challenges in Sindh. While there have been successes in reducing crime and enhancing security in the province, the lack of federal support in crucial infrastructure projects remains a significant concern. As Sindh continues to navigate these issues, the provincial government’s focus will likely remain on ensuring safety and advocating for much-needed development investments from the federal authorities.
