The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued orders to block the Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) of officials from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) due to delays in the anti-encroachment drive in Karachi. The directive was given by SHC Justice Nadeem Akhtar during a hearing on a plea regarding commercial activities on residential land in Gulzar Hijri.
Justice Nadeem Akhtar expressed concern over the involvement of SBCA officials in illegal constructions in the city. Despite repeated orders for action, the judge noted that SBCA authorities were consistently delaying the implementation of anti-encroachment measures.
During the hearing, the SHC rejected a plea from private school owners seeking the de-sealing of sealed schools. The judge commented that the school owners should have considered the implications before establishing schools in residential buildings.
In response to the delays in the anti-encroachment drive, the SHC ordered the blocking of CNICs for SBCA directors and deputy directors until further notice. This stern measure is intended to address the perceived negligence in the implementation of anti-encroachment efforts by SBCA officials.
In a related incident last month, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Sindh conducted an operation and apprehended a wanted extortionist, Zia alias Kala, affiliated with the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA). The arrest was made in connection with a case of extortion registered against the accused in Preedy police station.
