The government has passed notification 144 under Cr.PC which will be applicable for 90 days throughout Sindh with immediate effect. Under the new rules opening littering in streets, littering outside main doors of houses, through windows of vehicles on the road and littering on beaches has been banned. The new law has also banned spitting of pan in open and throwing debris from building construction on roads.
The new recommendations were pushed forward by Commissioner Karachi Division. Police departments are now authorized to register complaints under the new section.
Following Sindh government orders, the Police has already arrested a few culprits and registered FIRs against them.
The cleanliness drive and removal of solid waste form around the city is in full swing. Currently the work is being carried out in bab-i-Lyari, Khadda Market, Shah Waliullah road and other areas. Adiviser to the Chief Minister of Law and Environment Murtaza Wahab stated that the campaign is being closely monitored by the Sindh Governemnt under Chief Minister Sindh. He stressed that cooperation of citizens was required to achieve full results. He blamed the federal government for not helping out and claimed Sindh is a “victim of conspiracies”.
Earlier on Tuesday, Sindh Information Minister Saeed Ghani had announced a reward of Rs 100,000 for all those who film and identify people who litter. The Minister also announced two numbers where people are requested to forward this footage – 0300 0074296 & 0300 0084296. He assured that identity of reporters will be confidential. The information minister had also remarked that there were those who dumped garbage in the open in a “conspiracy to damage to drive”.
