Vice-Chancellor of the University of Karachi Dr Khalid Iraqi on Tuesday announced that Saturdays will now be car-free days at the university.

The measure was announced while he addressed the participants of a walk for diabetes awareness.

He said that the measure would help spread awareness in students and teachers about the health benefits of walking. Iraqi said that the step will also help improve the air quality of the campus.

He further said that he was considering banning soft drinks on the campus and has been trying to turn the campus into a no-smoking zone.
