According to ARY News, Sardar Ali Shah has instructed Education Department officials to re-assess and monitor the conditions of schools across the province, particularly focusing on those with deteriorating buildings. The minister emphasized that any negligence in ensuring the safety of students and the continuation of the teaching process will not be tolerated.
Minister Shah has mandated that all officers conduct thorough inspections of school facilities, especially in light of the recent heavy rainfall that has impacted several areas of Karachi. He has requested a detailed report on the current situation, urging the identification of any school buildings that pose a risk due to their dilapidated state.
This directive is part of a broader effort to ensure that the education system in Sindh remains resilient in the face of extreme weather conditions. The Education Minister’s call to action reflects the urgency of protecting both students and educational staff from potential hazards during the rainy season.
Today, various parts of Karachi experienced light to heavy rain, which led to significant flooding in areas such as Orangi Town and Sarjani Town. The Meteorological Department reported that Sarjani Town received the highest rainfall, recording 70.4 mm. Other areas, including Orangi Town, Gulshan Mimar, and North Karachi, also experienced substantial rainfall, leading to waterlogging on roads and disruption of daily activities.
The Education Minister’s concern is heightened by the fact that heavy rains often exacerbate the vulnerability of old and poorly maintained school buildings, potentially putting students and staff at risk. The department’s response to this situation is being closely monitored, with the expectation that all necessary precautions will be taken to prevent any incidents.
The Meteorological Department has forecasted intermittent rain until the night in Sarjani Town, with a likelihood of further rain in Karachi’s Central District as well.
