Respiratory infections galore: Pneumonia feared to further mar Covid-ridden winters

Health experts warn of rising number of pneumonia cases as winter season commences in country amid second wave of Covid-19.

Observing World Pneumonia Day 2020, it was noted that just in recent month total victims of pneumonia infection, a very common respiratory disease caused by virus or bacteria, have surpassed 187,000 in Sindh alone, most of which are children.

Sindh health minister Azra Pechuho marking the occasion, said pneumonia spreads fast in winters and advised caution.

Azra Pechuho said the most probable victims of the respiratory infection are children which she said is visible in the recent cases as their numbers have topped.

She said if it’s not timely treated, Pneumonia can be deadly.

Vaccination to prevent the respiratory infection is available in the province which is administered in three phases, health minister said.

It is pertinent to note that Sindh reported over 950 coronavirus cases on its daily tally, which is the highest daily since July this year.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said health department reported total 979 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the province during the last 24 hours after performing 12,599 tests.

It may be noted that out of total cases to have diagnosed with the pandemic virus, 789 belong to Karachi which made more than 80 percent.
