With Ramazan about to begin, Commissioner Karachi has fixed the rates of essential food items in the city. The decision was made in consultation with stakeholders and relevant associations.
Commissioner Karachi after meeting with the wholesalers association and retailers has fixed the retailers’ margin on pulses and rice is fixed at a rate of Rs5 per kilogram.
The commissioner said that the prices of pulses and rice were fixed for one month to provide relief to the people during the Holy month of Ramazan.
He said that 90 per cent of pulses are imported and the prices can be revised after one month in terms of dollar value. The meeting was attended by President Grocery Market Khajoor Bazar Mahmood Ali Khatri, Chairman Karachi Wholesalers Grocers Association Abdul Rauf Ibrahim and others.
The rates of Naan and Chapati were also fixed in consultation with the representatives of Food Centers, Naan Bai Associations and Consumers’ Association. The price of 180-gram tandoori naan has been fixed at Rs15. The rate of 120 grams tandoori naan at Rs 12; Afghani tandoori naan at Rs10, while 90-gram Chapatti at Rs8.
The price of ‘ A ‘category samosa (weight 35 grams with Qeema ) has been fixed at Rs22 and B category samosa at Rs. 18 per piece. A category samosa ( 60 grams weight with potato ) Rs22 and B category Rs18.
The price of A category mixed pakoras has been fixed at Rs360 per kilogram and B category pakoras at Rs320 per kilogram. Jalebi A category was fixed at Rs320 per kilogram and B category at Rs280 per kg.
The meeting where these rates were fixed was attended by Additional Commissioner II, Deputy Commissioners, Bureau of Prices, Representatives of Consumer Associations Kokab Iqbal, Umar Ghauri, Shakeel Baig, President Sweets and Bakers Association Sheikh Muhammad Tehseen, Asif Ahmed of Dilpsand Bakery, Maqsood Nasir of United Bakery, Gulzar Ahmed of Rehmat -i-Shireen and others were present.
