Production activities in Karachi’s largest industrial hub, the Site Industrial Area, were halted due to a 90-hour power outage. According to Kamran Arabi, President of the Site Industrial Area Association, the power supply to the industries has been gradually restored after a four-day suspension, but 30 percent of the industries are still without power, preventing full resumption of production.
The outage began on Sunday evening following a fire at the Haroonabad grid station, which cut off electricity to a significant number of industries, leading to a complete stoppage of production activities. Kamran Arabi highlighted the severe financial losses faced by the industries and the impact on daily wage workers whose employment has been disrupted by the shutdown. The situation underscores the need for reliable power supply and the consequences of unannounced load shedding, which the Prime Minister has ordered to be eliminated across the country.
