The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, in partnership with the religious ministry, has unveiled plans to completely digitize next year’s Hajj operations, as reported by ARY News.
This decision was made during a special committee meeting convened under the directive of the Prime Minister earlier this month. The meeting was chaired by the caretaker IT Minister, Dr. Umar Saif, and attended by the Religious Affairs Minister, Aneeq Ahmed.
During the meeting, Dr. Umar Saif outlined the development of a smartphone application and web portal that will digitize the entire Hajj operation.
The IT minister instructed the National Information Technology Board (NITB) to promptly upgrade the existing Hajj operation system to facilitate this transition.
Furthermore, the caretaker government has formulated the Hajj policy for 2024. Minister Aneeq Ahmed, responsible for Religious Affairs, noted that the federal cabinet is expected to approve the Hajj policy within the next ten days to avoid delays that have caused problems in the past.
The new policy includes provisions for both 40-day and short-duration Hajj trips. To enhance the experience for Pakistani Hajj pilgrims, the ministry plans to provide them with two suitcases, each with specific colors and designs for easy identification.
Moreover, the documents of each Hajj pilgrim, such as passport and residence details, will be stored in a QR code on the suitcase. Additionally, pilgrims will be able to make unlimited calls to Pakistan.
Earlier, Caretaker Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Aneeq Ahmed, announced that the Saudi Arabian government would offer additional facilities and improved services to Pakistani pilgrims during Hajj 2024. These enhancements will cover accommodations, meals, and transportation, promising a more comfortable and convenient experience for pilgrims.
