Pak Suzuki announces temporary plant shutdown due to inventory shortage

Pak Suzuki Motor Company Ltd (PSMCL) has announced a temporary shutdown of its automobile and motorcycle plant from June 22, 2023, to July 08, 2023, citing a shortage of inventory levels. The decision comes as a result of ongoing government import restrictions that have affected the auto sector, leading to inventory shortages.

Pak Suzuki, the largest carmaker in Pakistan in terms of production and sales volume, has been grappling with various crises in the country’s auto sector. In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the company highlighted its struggles and losses due to economic uncertainties and urged against imposing new duties and taxes in the upcoming budget.

During the first quarter of the year, Pak Suzuki reported significant losses of 12.9 billion, attributing them to the challenging economic conditions. The temporary plant shutdown is seen as a necessary measure to address the inventory shortage issue.
