Open oil to not be sold without purchase slip from certified dealer: SHC

Chief Justice Sindh High Court has directed open oil wholesalers to provide receipts of the oil purchase on Thursday in the open oil ban case.

The chief justice of the Sindh High Court (SHC) has a number of concerns regarding the wholesalers’ objection to the closure of godowns and Sindh’s restriction on the selling of open oil.

Today at the Sindh High Court (SHC) in Karachi, the matter involving the sale of open oil and closure of storage was heard. The wholesalers were questioned by Chief Justice Sindh High Court (SHC) over their worries regarding shutting open oil storage.

The CJ SHC questioned, “Do the wholesalers make the oil and ghee themselves or get it from somewhere?”

The oil is purchased from factories and sold on the open market, according to the wholesalers’ attorney. According to the CJ, many factories are running without licences and authorities are inactive.

Whether the wholesalers have any receipts for the oil they purchased, the CJ asked if they should bring them to court. He questioned, “Is open oil not hazardous to human health?”

The CJ SHC also requested information from the Food Department regarding the nature of their raids. 14 wholesale storage units had been closed by the government for supplying inferior oil.

According to the wholesalers’ attorney, the authority sealed godowns without giving them a show-cause notice. The CJ instructed the wholesalers to only buy oil from recognised businesses.
