The Sindh government has revised its orders regarding the ban on indoor dining and weddings in Karachi and Hyderabad with restrictions on indoor dining and weddings coming in place from January 21 instead of January 24.
The decision has been taken in light of the growing Covid-19 positivity rate in Karachi amid the fifth coronavirus wave being driven by the Omicron variant.
In a revised notification — issued today by the Sindh Home Department — the ban on indoor dining, weddings in Karachi and Hyderabad will go into effect from Jan 21, three days earlier than previously planned.
After the National Command and Operations Centre’s (NCOC) decision the Sindh government has decided that all types of indoor gatherings, including weddings and dining in Karachi and Hyderabad would be banned.
The Sindh government, however, decided that gyms, cinemas, shrines, amusement parks will continue to operate with 50 per cent capacity for fully vaccinated individuals only.
Sources within the centre’s health machinery claim that the nationwide positivity ratio has reached 11.55 per cent during the last 24 hours with Sindh reporting a 21.77 per cent positivity rate, Punjab 7.23 per cent, Balochisan 4.74 per cent, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) 2.88 per cent.
Moreover, Karachi has continued to top the positivity charts with a 41.06 per cent Covid positivity rate, followed by 25 per cent in Muzaffarabad, 17.27 per cent in Hyderabad, 14.25 per cent in Lahore, and 12.75 per cent in Rawalpindi.
