Night sweeping has started in Central District with the efforts of Deputy Commissioner and Administrator Taha Saleem. Mechanical sweeping vans are to be used to help overcome the district’s sanitation issues.
The system will be run by trained staff. Prior to the system’s launch, Saleem observed the performance of the mechanical sweeper machine at Ziauddin Chowrangi, North Nazimabad and termed the sweeping work a welcome step for Central District.
While explaining the usefulness of the Mechanical Sweeper he said that this machine can handle the work of many human beings at the same time and can clean a wide area in a short period of time. Which will significantly reduce costs over time.Â
It should be noted that cleanliness has been a problem in every city and every district in every era. However, there is a clear difference in day and night cleaning work as local bodies employ hundreds of centralised workers while using modern manpower.Â
Cleaning roads by machine is a common practice all over the world and in the past it was also used in Karachi.
