The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a Rs3.70 per unit increase in the power tariff for K-Electric consumers on monthly fuel adjustment charges for March, as per a notification issued on Wednesday.
The new tariff will put an additional burden of Rs5.4 billion on already struggling masses. The power tariff hike will be effective from May, while the increase will not be applicable to lifeline consumers. Rising costs of electricity production and distribution have been attributed to the tariff hike.
A separate order by NEPRA approved an increase of Rs0.34 per unit on account of monthly fuel adjustment for all consumer categories except lifeline consumers and K-Electric users.
