Mufti Taqi Usmani escaped suspicious assassination attempt

A suspicious man was caught by guards of Mufti Taqi Usmani on the account of following and stalking Mufti Usmani, carrying a knife on Thursday.


The suspect is identified as a 35 years old man Asim Laeeq, who was caught by the Scholar’s guard before he could attack on the Scholar, by the time Mufti Usmani was coming out from Dar ul Uloom Korangi.


According to the police, the suspect is the resident of Karachi’s Gulistan e Johar area, he was fed up from his domestic issues with his wife and wanted to seek guidance and prayers from the Scholar.


He did not attack on Mufti Usmani said SSP Korangi Shahjahan while adding, “The unidentified suspect has been taken into custody, we are continuing with further investigation into the incident.”


Mufti Usmani assured his followers that he is safe while releasing an audio message after the incident, “”A suspect came to me after the Fajr prayers and asked to speak to me in private,” he said. “I had just gotten up to speak to him when the suspect pulled out a knife from his pocket.


Thanking God for his safety he added that the law enforcement agencies are further investigating the matter, which will make it clearer.


Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Interior Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed spoke to Usmani over the phone to express concern over the incident.


The minister inquired about the incident from the religious scholar, and praised him for being the “pride of Islam”.


“I am very concerned about the suspected attack on you,” said Rasheed, praying for the scholar’s health and long life.
