MQM-P halts the demolition of Jubilee market, requests to grant some time


Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has directed to stop the demolition of Jubliee Market after Muttahida Qaumi Movemnt Pakistan (MQM-P) requested on the spot, the market is allegedly built on the stormwater drain.


According to the media, MQM-P leader Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan along with shop owners came to protest against the demolition when KMC team was ready to knock down the place. MQM-P asked for a meeting with commissioner and Karachi administrator.


The shopkeepers should be granted with some more time to make arrangements for shipment of their assets and settlement, asked Izhar ul Hassan in the meeting with KMC director Bashir Siddiqui.


Commissioner and administration have accepted MQM-P request and spared some more time to the shopkeepers.


Earlier KMC had announced to demolish two of the spots in its anti-encroachment drive which include Jublilee and Iron market which are built on the stormwater drain in Karachi.


Anti-encroachment team of District South was called for the operation with their machinery. The officials of K-Electric, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) were also informed about the operation to take part in it and the security officials were informed as well.


Looking at the prior incidents at the spot, 10 shops had collapsed at Karachi’s Jubilee market on July 1, the shops were built on the drain water.
