Matter of Karachi’s govt hospital control soon to be resolved: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday conducted his first-ever visit to Karachi. 

During the visit, Commission Karachi gave a detailed briefing on control of 3 hospitals in Karachi, water issues, Karachi Mass Transit, and water projects in Karachi. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also presented the case of Sindh’s people to the prime minister.

PM was briefed about the situation of the Jinnah Hospital, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and National Institute for Children’s Health. He was informed that all three of these had been given to the Sindh government to run in 2011.

He said that since that time. the Sindh government has upgraded JPMC, NICVD, NICH and all three now also provide treatment for cancer.

The Government of Sindh has also set up 8 satellite centres running under NICVD and the total expenditure of NICVD has grown from Rs. 300 million to Rs 6 billion now.

The PM was further told that the fate of JPMC is yet to be decided as the federation had set up a board about the matter ib 019 but a decision on the matter is yet to be taken. The prime minister assured the meeting that the centre and province will soon come to a mutual decision on the matter and sign an agreement over giving the Sindh government the control over JPMC and the other hospitals soon.
