A sessions court in Karachi has sentenced Muhammad Atif to seven years in prison for raping a minor boy. Additional District and Sessions Judge (West), Irshad Hussain, found Atif guilty of sexually assaulting the victim within the jurisdiction of the Madina Colony police station in 2022.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on Atif. If he fails to pay the fine, he will serve an additional six months in prison. The court also cancelled his bail and ordered the police to take him into custody and transfer him to Karachi Central Prison to serve his sentence.
The court emphasized that Atif was not entitled to any leniency due to the severity of his crime. “I am of the view that the prosecution has successfully proved its case beyond any reasonable doubt as I found evidence and connected material showing that the victim was subjected to the act of sodomy, which is punishable under Section 377 of the PPC,” the court stated.
Additionally, the court declared a co-accused as a proclaimed offender and directed that his case would be re-opened upon his arrest.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred when a 12-year-old boy went out to play with his friends but did not return home. His father, the complainant, initiated a search, and the boy was eventually found near Haqqani Ground in Baldia Town. The victim informed his father that three individuals had taken him to a plot and raped him.
Following the registration of the case, the police arrested Atif and conducted a medical examination to confirm the assault.
