India Clinches Third Champions Trophy Title!

ICC Champions Trophy final

India made history by becoming the first team to win the ICC Champions Trophy three times after defeating New Zealand in the 2025 final at the Dubai Cricket Stadium.

The Indian cricket team successfully chased New Zealand’s target of 252 runs to claim the prestigious title.

Captain Rohit Sharma anchored India’s innings with a commanding 76 off 83 balls, smashing seven fours and three sixes. While Shubman Gill contributed 31, Shreyas Iyer added a crucial 48. However, Virat Kohli’s early dismissal for just one run created some tension.

Axar Patel (29) and KL Rahul (33*) steadied the chase, while Hardik Pandya (18) and Ravindra Jadeja (9*) ensured India’s victory, cementing their status as the new Champions Trophy winners.

In the first innings, New Zealand posted 251/7 in their 50 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat.

The Kiwis started steadily but lost their first wicket at 57 when Will Young fell to Varun Chakravarthy.

Rachin Ravindra top-scored with 69 before being dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav, while skipper Kane Williamson managed just 11.

India and New Zealand are set to face off in the highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, scheduled to begin at 2 PM local time (09:00 GMT).

Dubai is hosting the final after India refused to travel to the original host nation, Pakistan. India has been dominant throughout the competition, remaining unbeaten and also handing New Zealand their only group-stage defeat.

  • Toss

New Zealand wins the toss and elects to bat first against India.

Mitchell Santner: We will try and put some runs on the board. A few blue shirts out there. A great occasion and a great stadium. It is going to be a good final. Slightly different to what we had in Pakistan. We saw India play very well and we will try and get some runs on the board and see how it goes. Different guys have stepped up at different times. It is going to be a good game. Matt Henry has been ruled out and Nathan Smith comes in.

Rohit Sharma: I don’t mind batting second. It is a good pitch, hasn’t change a lot. We have to bowl first and we just need to focus how to restrict them. At the end of the day, what matters is how well you want to play. We don’t want to worry about the toss. We have played good cricket. Another important game. We will see what needs to be done. NZ have been a great team. Another challenge, how well we can play. We are playing the same team.

  • How will the Dubai pitch play during the final?

It is the same pitch as the one on which the India-Pakistan game was played.

Aakash Chopra says that the pitch is very dry, but rock hard. These patches won’t break. Not a lot of turn and as the day goes on, the pitch will continue to wear. Batting first will be key. The teams will look to score 270 and above.
