India made history by becoming the first team to win the ICC Champions Trophy three times after defeating New Zealand in the 2025 final at the Dubai Cricket Stadium.
The Indian cricket team successfully chased New Zealand’s target of 252 runs to claim the prestigious title.
Captain Rohit Sharma anchored India’s innings with a commanding 76 off 83 balls, smashing seven fours and three sixes. While Shubman Gill contributed 31, Shreyas Iyer added a crucial 48. However, Virat Kohli’s early dismissal for just one run created some tension.
Axar Patel (29) and KL Rahul (33*) steadied the chase, while Hardik Pandya (18) and Ravindra Jadeja (9*) ensured India’s victory, cementing their status as the new Champions Trophy winners.
In the first innings, New Zealand posted 251/7 in their 50 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat.
The Kiwis started steadily but lost their first wicket at 57 when Will Young fell to Varun Chakravarthy.
Rachin Ravindra top-scored with 69 before being dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav, while skipper Kane Williamson managed just 11.
India and New Zealand are set to face off in the highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, scheduled to begin at 2 PM local time (09:00 GMT).
Dubai is hosting the final after India refused to travel to the original host nation, Pakistan. India has been dominant throughout the competition, remaining unbeaten and also handing New Zealand their only group-stage defeat.
Both teams have a history of success in the Champions Trophy.
