KE held its second edition of the KHI Awards, an initiative endorsed by NEPRA and launched in collaboration with #IAmKarachi, at the Governor House in Karachi. The event shed light on efforts in betterment and development that came in 13 different categories, inclusive of Empowering Women, Education, Digital Accessibility and Financial Inclusion, Heritage and Culture, Public Health (Primary Sector), Public Health (Secondary and Tertiary Sector), Safety, Sports, Inclusion, Lively Hoods and Vocational Training, Social Service, Sustainability and Environment and Uplifting Communities, which awarded a total of 40 winners.
The event started with a heartwarming rendition of the National Anthem recited by children of Kiran Foundation. The hosts of the Award show, celebrities Khalid Malik and Sidra Iqbal, introduced KE and their initiatives towards reshaping and redefining Karachi before they called up the CEO of KE, Mr. Moonis Alvi, on stage.
The CEO, Moonis Alvi, talked about KE and its initiatives and focused on CSR projects. He further reinstated the vision of K-Electric, by stating, “We believe in going beyond the provision of power to Karachi. We are committed to building great societies”. He further focused on how this is not a simple task, and it requires organizations, big and small, to work around the clock.”
Guest of honour, Governor Sindh, Imran Ismail, also re-established the role of Karachi and its dynamism as one of the main factors of the country’s growth. After taking the stage, he also said how we must all play our part in keeping Karachi’s nature and flourishment intact. Legendary writer Anwar Maqsood was also called on to the stage who brilliantly put his words in respect of KE. He extended by saying that KE has still prevailed and emerged through some of the most challenging times Pakistan has undergone financially, socially, and economically.
The Chairman BOI and Change Activist, Mr. Azfar Ahsan, was also welcomed on the stage who talked about how he owns being a Karachi citizen. He further appreciated K-Electric and the several organizations that play a significant role in bringing reforms to the society with a commitment towards livelihood and sustainability.
NEPRA Chairman, Tauseef Farooqi, also made an impression on the stage and stated, “It is commendable to see that KE is finding innovative ways to take ownership of the communities it serves. We have to understand that creating meaningful relationships with customers and the environment is necessary to drive sustainable progress. This is why NEPRA introduced the ‘Power with Prosperity’ vision to galvanize the power sector, and we have seen sizable investment and job creation across Pakistan through CSR efforts.”
The overall event resided along the lines of commitment to change and the social, economic and financial revitalization of Karachi. It showcased the focus and aim of KE and its organizational structure towards becoming a better organization and encouraging better citizenship by setting the standards as a role model for others to follow.
