Karachi’s illegal weapons trade to be probed

A committee has been established by the Additional Inspector-General (AIG) to look into Karachi’s illegal weapons trade and phoney arms licences.

In order to look into the unlawful trade in illegal firearms, the AIG reportedly formed a committee of Superintendent of Police (SP) Baldia and Superintendent of Police (SP) Kemari Investigation.

In this regard, a notification has also been released. According to the statement, the committee will identify dealers who create false licences and sell illicit weapons. The police were meantime reexamining the weapons permits that were awarded between 2012 and 2020.

The police said that thousands of bogus licences were produced and used to sell guns. By recognising the fraudulent paperwork, fake licences and firearms were being seized.
