Karachi’s current heatwave to end in May

Chief Metrologist Sardar Sarfraz has said that April 29, 30 and May 1 could be the hottest days of the current heatwave, however, the city will experience a let-up in the heatwave in the middle of the month.

The chief meteorologist said that this year’s March has been the hottest month in Pakistan since 1961. He said that even in April, the temperature was above normal and in some parts of the country, the temperature could touch 50 degrees.

The chief meteorologist said that the heatwave would last till May 2, after which weak Western winds would start flowing in northeastern Balochistan where rains are possible. Sardar Sarfraz said that there is a possibility of rain in the upper parts of the country.

He said that another heatwave may come on May 7 or 8 and remain till mid-May, the eastern parts of the country will be enveloped in it.

The Chief Meteorologist said that inside Sindh, South Central Punjab will be affected by the heatwave, while Karachi will remain relatively cooler. 

About the current heatwave, he said that the weather in Karachi is generally hot and humid and it could touch 40 degrees Celsius between April 29 and 30.

Sardar Sarfraz said that the temperature in Karachi during Eid could be between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius.
