In a bid to address the persistent traffic challenges plaguing Karachi, the Karachi Traffic Police has ramped up its efforts to enforce traffic regulations and ensure smoother vehicular movement across the city.
An important meeting was convened by Deputy Inspector General Ahmed Nawaz, where all Superintendents of Police (SPs) from the traffic department participated. During the meeting, discussions centered around the pressing traffic issues faced by the city.
One of the key concerns highlighted was the prevalence of wrong-way driving, which poses a serious risk to road safety. DIG Traffic Karachi emphasized that habitual traffic law violators will face fines, and in cases of non-compliance, their vehicles will be seized.
Contrary to merely issuing tickets, the focus of the Karachi Traffic Police is now on actively managing traffic flow while simultaneously ensuring convenience for commuters. However, strict enforcement measures will be taken against violators to maintain order on the roads.
To bolster surveillance and enforcement, officers will be stationed after traffic signals equipped with body-worn cameras to record violations and penalize offenders accordingly.
Furthermore, a strategic deployment plan has been devised, allocating 30% of personnel during the day and 70% at night around market areas to alleviate congestion and streamline traffic movement.
Transport unions have been urged to instruct their drivers to adhere to the fast lane rule, with banners being displayed on roads to reinforce this directive.
Petrol pump and motorcycle patrolling officers will use megaphones to educate citizens on the importance of keeping heavy vehicles out of the fast lanes.
Additionally, strict regulations are being enforced regarding parking, with designated areas for motorcycles and cars in single lanes. Rickshaws will be directed to stand on the side of the road, preventing blockages, and double parking will be strictly prohibited.
SSP officers will conduct personal visits to markets and bazaars to assess traffic situations and ensure effective implementation of these measures.
This proactive approach by the Karachi Traffic Police aims to alleviate congestion, enhance road safety, and streamline traffic movement, contributing to a smoother commuting experience for the residents of Karachi.
