Karachi tea shop owner Bakht Mohammad triumphs as MMA Champion

Bakht Mohammad, a humble tea shop owner from Soldier Bazar area in Karachi, has emerged victorious as the mixed martial arts champion at an event held in Tehran. Despite his remarkable achievements, Bakht Mohammad laments the lack of government support in promoting such competitions.

Having trained in mixed martial arts at a Karachi academy in 2019, Bakht Mohammad made his international debut in August 2021, participating in competitions held in Khost province of Afghanistan. His journey to victory began with a decisive win over Ibrahim Mohammadi in the 65 kg category during the ‘Khatri Night Fight,’ organized by the Afghanistan government.

Continuing his winning streak, Bakht Mohammad secured another victory at the Asian Fight Night in Peshawar, defeating Umar in the 65 kg category. Most recently, he clinched the championship title by triumphing over Qasim Rahimi in an international competition.

Despite his success, Bakht Mohammad faces financial hurdles in participating in international competitions, underscoring the need for sponsorship in a sport that struggles to attract sponsors due to its relatively low popularity in Pakistan.

Bakht Mohammad emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about mixed martial arts to encourage the younger generation to engage in healthy activities. He stresses the need for government involvement in promoting the sport to enhance Pakistan’s global standing.

Amidst his sporting endeavors, 27-year-old Bakht Mohammad is also pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in software engineering from Ulama University in Karachi. His determination and achievements serve as a testament to the potential of individuals from diverse backgrounds to excel in the world of sports with adequate support and encouragement.
