Karachi Police Chief, Javed Alam Odhu, has assured the public that there is no specific threat regarding Muharram, and comprehensive security measures will be in place for all assemblies and processions during the religious month.
Addressing the press in his office, Odhu emphasized the importance of the first decade of Muharram, during which 149 processions are scheduled, with 87 of them considered highly sensitive.
He further stated that more than 50,000 congregations will be held in the initial 10 days of Muharram, with 665 congregations classified as highly sensitive. To ensure the safety of all congregations and processions, the police have prepared a security plan and set up a monitoring and control room.
During the 7th to 10th of Muharram, large processions will be organized, requiring 6,392 police officers and personnel to be deployed for Ashura security. Additional duties will also be performed by personnel from the Special Branch and traffic police to ensure the smooth and secure observance of Muharram events.
