Karachi appear to have upped its criminal investigation department by setting up the first Crime Scene Investigation Unit last week. The unit was inaugurated by the city’s police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon.
The unit is equipped with latest technology which meets international standards and is likely to enable police officers to conduct top quality investigation. As stated by Memon, much evidences would be disregarded in past due to lack of technology to test them. As a result, cases would have to be dismissed as well.
However, the new Unit is to remain operational round the clock, and remain in touch with the police. This will enable the concerned officers to reach the crime scene on time to extract useful evidence.
Currently, only one unit has been opened in the Clifton area. But future plans include setting up 12 other units in different stations of the city.
