Statistics released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) show in the sensitive pricing index (SPI) weekly review a record increase in inflation up to 42.31 per cent on an annual basis in August.
The SPI for the most recent week, which concluded on August 18, reportedly increased by 3.35 per cent due to price increases on 25 different goods, according to the PBS.
According to the study, prices of food goods increased by 20.28 per cent for tomatoes, 7.57 per cent for poultry, 2.30 per cent for onions, 2.03 per cent for powdered milk, 1.63 per cent for eggs, 1.42 per cent for pulse moong, and 1.07 per cent for potatoes.
Electricity costs increased by 6.83 per cent, gasoline prices by 2.96 per cent, and cigarette prices by 1.69 per cent.
On the other side, prices of 11 goods decreased, including LPG by 3.46%, vegetable ghee by 1.16 %, garlic by 0.94 %, mustard oil by 0.71 %, pulse masoor by 0.42 %, pulse gramme by 0.36 %, vegetable ghee by 0.33 %, cooking oil by 0.31 %, diesel by 0.18 %, firewood whole by 0.16 %, and sugar by 0.03 %.
It also said that the costs of 15 different things stayed constant throughout the course of the week.
