In the first month of 2022, the rate of street crime increased in Karachi. The stats of street crimes released by CPLC are as follows:
In January, 184 four-wheelers were stolen while 16 were snatched and only 87 vehicles were recovered. If January 2022 is compared to January 2021, 160 four-wheelers were stolen in January last year while 10 were snatched out of which 51 were recovered.
In the first month of the year, 419 motorcycles were snatched from the citizens of Karachi while 3908 incidents of motorcycle theft were reported. Only 319 motorcycles were recovered. In January 2021, 279 motorcycles were snatched while 3649 motorcycles were stolen and 343 motorcycles were also recovered.
In January 2022, street criminals snatched 2,499 mobile phones at gunpoint, of which only 68 were recovered.
According to the report, two kidnappings took place in Karachi last month. While 44 murders were reported.
