The Sindh Home Department on Tuesday issued guidelines and coronavirus SOPs for Ashura activities in Muharram to Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners of Karachi.
With a sharp rise in coronavirus cases in the city, those attending gatherings and rallies will have to continuously keep their masks on. Sanitisers will also have to be made available at the gatherings, the guidelines said.
Zaireen attending these events will have to be vaccinated, while children and elderly citizens have been advised against taking part in Ashura processions and gatherings this year.
Spot vaccination camps will also be set up at vaccination sites and it has been decided that gatherings will only take place in open spaces. A six-foot distance will also be maintained at mosques. Thermal scanners will also be installed at gatherings to screen participants for high body temperatures. It has also been decided that food and niyaz will only be distributed in disposable containers.
