Health Officer requests Karachi deputy commissioner to impose lockdown

Rapid rise of the nationwide tally of coronavirus cases has directed the federal and provincial governments to seal areas which are coronavirus hotspots.

Deputy Commissioner (West Karachi) Gharbi Fayyaz Solangi said that two Union Councils (USCs) in Baldia and Site would be sealed based on the report received from the Provincial Health Department.

A district health officer has also written a letter to deputy commissioner Karachi, requesting him to impose a smart lockdown in 16 union council districts which have the most number of reported cases.

As per reports, most of the cases have been reported in Site and Baldia Town.

34 cases have been recorded in Gulshan-e-Maymar and Khuda Ki Basti and 37 cases have been recorded in Maymarabad. In Keamari, 20 cases have been reported in Bhutta village, 34 in Sultanabad and 47 in Keamari’s Docks and Majeed Colony. In Baldia town, 37 cases have been reported in Islam Nagar, 134 in Muslim Mujahid and 30 in Muhajir camp and Kokan Colony.

In Site, 149 cases were recorded in UC-4, 44 in UC-6 Frontier Colony and 28 in UC-7.

Meanwhile, in Islamabad Sector I-8 and Sector I-10 are to be sealed.

In Lahore, the authorities have decided to seal 80 areas in order to prevent the spread of the virus.
