Google sets up office in Pakistan, TikTok to follow: IT Minister

Federal Minister for Information Technology, Aminul Haq, has announced that global search engine giant Google has established its office in Pakistan. The minister shared this news during an informal conversation with the media in Islamabad. He also revealed that the Ministry of IT is making significant progress on social media rules and that they are now in the final stages.

According to Mr. Haq, the social media rules will soon be presented to the cabinet for approval. These rules are aimed at regulating social media platforms operating in Pakistan. The minister emphasized the importance of companies having a physical presence in the country. He stated that companies that do not open their offices in Pakistan should at least have a virtual office to ensure compliance with local regulations.

In addition to Google’s establishment in Pakistan, the minister also mentioned that the popular video sharing app TikTok is planning to open its office in the country. This development showcases the growing interest of major tech companies in establishing a local presence in Pakistan.
