The Ministry of Interior has approved former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed’s request to provide him foolproof security amid threats to his person and family.

A letter written by the Registrar’s Office on January 27 sought for the retiring judge foolproof security at home and during his travels.

The letter stated that according to Article 25 (1) of the Supreme Court Rules, security is provided to the chief justice even after retirement.

It added that the lives of the former CJP and his family were in grave danger. In order to avoid any untoward incident, it was imperative that the former top judge and his family be provided security (rangers, police).

The ministry has approved the request and the ex-CJP will be given a security squad, consisting of rangers and a police team.

Justice Gulzar retired on Tuesday.
