Chicken, egg prices to rise

Chicken will soon cost Rs 1,000 per kg as a result of the federal government’s negligence, which causes the clearance of ships loaded with soybean and canola at Karachi port to be delayed. As a result, many poultry farms and other industries are impacted. Eggs and grains will cost Rs 500 for a dozen.

In this regard, Pakistan Poultry Association and Pakistan Solvent Extractors Association held a demonstration at the Press Club. While speaking to the crowd, Mian Muhammad Ahmed, the chairman of All Pakistan Solvent Extractors, announced that four cargo ships carrying soybeans had arrived in Pakistan’s port.

He said that 2 of these ships have returned after unloading soybeans, but clearance has not yet been given by the relevant authorities. Mian Muhammad Ahmed said that 2 ships loaded with soybeans are standing at Port Qasim Outer Channel, 5 more ships of soybeans are in the sea which will reach Pakistan soon.

The import consignment worth 4.5 billion dollars is at the port, according to the chairman of the Solvent Extractors Association. If the issue is not resolved, 60 million metric tonnes of soybean seeds as well as chicken meat and eggs will no longer be imported.

Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf, the chairman of the Pakistan Poultry Association, claimed that the issue has not been resolved and that more chickens will need to be imported.

In order to address the issues, representatives of the Poultry Association said they have also written letters to the federal government. They suggested that the government issue a warning regarding the crushing of soybeans and canola meal.

Be aware that there is a critical shortage of soybeans in Pakistan, which is the main protein component of poultry feed, and the stocks of soybeans with the poultry feed mills in the country are almost zero.

If the ships loaded with soybeans parked at Karachi’s Port Qasim harbor are not cleared immediately, the people will face non-availability of chicken and eggs in the coming days.

If the government does not release the soybean shipments soon, Pakistan’s poultry industry will grind to a halt and the people will be deprived of the cheapest source of protein available to them in the form of chicken and egg
