Army Chief decries Jaranwala incident

Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir has expressed deep sorrow and dismay over the tragic incident that unfolded in Jaranwala recently, emphasizing the need for unity and understanding among the youth to combat misinformation and promote harmony.

In an official statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Army Chief General Asim Munir conveyed his sentiments while addressing participants of the ISPR Internship Program.

Reflecting on the Jaranwala incident, the Army Chief remarked that it was an extremely distressing and unacceptable occurrence. He stressed the importance of discerning the difference between truth, partial truths, falsehoods, and misinformation.

General Munir asserted that incidents of intolerance and extreme behavior against minorities have no place in a diverse and inclusive society. He emphasized that all citizens of Pakistan, regardless of their religious, gender, caste, or creed affiliations, are equal in the eyes of the law and society. He underlined that no individual or group would be allowed to take matters into their own hands, and those responsible for such actions will be held accountable before the law.

Addressing the Jaranwala incident, the Army Chief reiterated that no leniency would be shown to those involved, emphasizing that justice will prevail under all circumstances.

Turning his attention to the nation’s youth, General Munir underscored their pivotal role in the development and progress of the country. He lauded the youth as the torchbearers of Pakistan’s future, highlighting their potential to contribute significantly to peace, development, and prosperity.

During his address, the Army Chief also acknowledged the disturbing efforts of individuals and groups attempting to sow discord and unrest within the country. He called upon the youth to remain vigilant against such elements and to unite in the face of divisive agendas.

The ISPR Internship Program, which brought together 370 male and female students from across Pakistan, was commended by General Asim Munir. He praised the participants for their successful completion of the internship, noting the significance of their engagement in fostering a deeper understanding of national affairs.

The Army Chief’s remarks reiterate the commitment of the military leadership to upholding principles of unity, tolerance, and social cohesion, while emphasizing the vital role of the youth in shaping a harmonious and progressive Pakistan.
