Applications for Hajj 2024 accepted as designated bank branches open

Designated bank branches commenced the acceptance of applications for Hajj 2024 on Monday, as announced by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, according to ARY News. The ministry informed that 15 branches of designated banks throughout the country will receive applications for the government’s Hajj scheme until December 12.

A total of 197,201 Pakistanis are expected to undertake the sacred journey of Hajj next year. The government has implemented a reduction of Rs100,000 in Hajj expenses. This marks the first time in Pakistan’s history that the caretaker government has introduced a short Hajj package.

Notably, women will now have the opportunity to embark on the sacred journey without the traditional requirement of a male companion, reflecting a progressive shift in the approach to this religious obligation.

Minister for Religious Affairs, Dr. Aneeq Ahmed, mentioned that half of Pakistan’s Hajj quota is reserved for private Hajj operators. The Ministry of Religious Affairs will oversee these operators to ensure the well-being of pilgrims, with the ministry being held responsible for any issues faced by those performing Hajj through private operators.

Dr Ahmed also highlighted the ongoing renovation work at the Haji Camp Karachi building, demonstrating the commitment to enhancing pilgrimage facilities.
